The Rose That Grew From Concrete

The Rose That Grew From Concrete

I’d just left the office to grab some lunch from a one of the many food trucks downtown. As I was walking up the street I heard a woman shouting, “If you don’t move your f@#king ass. Sh#t! Let me have to tell your dumb ass again and I’m going to beat ya little ass!” At that moment I turned to see a “young lady” (please note the quotation marks) in her late twenties pulling the arm of a roughly 5-year-old girl–who obviously was walking too slowly for her mother. Honestly, I was praying that at any second a lightning bolt would sear the afternoon sky and the woman would implode...

Life Is All One FREAKING Test!

Posted by in Diary | 0 comments

No matter how much you plan the unexpected will happen. You lay your clothes out for work the night before just to spend a hour the next morning trying to find your bra. Before leaving the house, you save an address in your phone’s GPS just to spend the next hour lost, in the car, trying to locate a signal; you pick out the perfect outfit for your son, rush him to his first preschool open-house and as soon as you park the car he throws-up all over his clothes and car seat. It never freaking fails! It’s like one of my favorite Alanis Morissette songs, “Ironic”.  “…An old man turned...

Mutual Connection

Casey and I worked together briefly before I left for maternity leave. We were both cordial, but I didn’t overly extend myself because I like to keep my personal life separate from work (basically, I don’t want everyone up in my business). When I returned three-months later, she shared that she was expecting her first child and I immediately felt a connection–the baby connection! I have crossed paths with many people who initially seem the complete opposite of myself. But, as soon as you get a person talking about their children the barriers begin to crumble.  Now that I...

Hello Breastfeeding! I Gave You Three Months.

I was adamant that I was going to breastfeed my son exclusively for the first 365 days of his life. I read every book you could imagine…Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers, The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, The Breastfeeding Book: Everything You Need to Know About Nursing Your Child from Birth Through Weaning and the list goes on. And, let’s not discuss the amount of online video clips I watched. Every time my husband walked passed me on the computer there was a titty on the screen. In my mind, there were NO other options. Breast milk is what my baby...

Gross & Greedy

Gross & Greedy

My son will pass gas and keep going about his business. I go to change his diaper and before I have an opportunity to wipe him clean, he’s already pulling at his “unmentionables” waiting to hear me say, “Ewww, S Dot! Stop touching it!” And now he has figured out that snot forms when he cries, so he will spend 10 minutes blowing it out of his nose and feeling it ooze onto his lips. DISGUSTING! I was talking to my girlfriend about it this morning and she had me cracking up, “Oh guuurl that’s nothing! You just wait until he’s older. Then you’ll see how gross little boys can really...
